I had coffee with a long lost friend the other day.
We have been catching up over the past few months.
Re-connecting is sweet, joyful, and different now that we are older.
We have lived through many chapters since our younger days:
losses, changes, grief, beauty, hope…
So I was listening deeply, responding, and open hearted.

At one point during the conversation, she snapped at me.
It wasn’t mean spirited, just abrupt, and a bit sharp,
and then she moved back into her story.
I registered the “ow” simultaneously with the realization
that she felt comfortable enough with me to jump right in like that.
She has baggage, just like everyone else,
and one of my comments had triggered her, though only momentarily.
I took a deep breath, and then laughed.
Reconnecting with loved ones
is a both blessing and a reality check.
We get to enjoy some of the good things we remember
and re-experience some of the harsh things we had forgotten.
It is good to remember that roses have thorns.

Someone once told me that to remember someone is to Re-Member them:
to claim them again as a member of our clan, our circle
To be called by name, loved, included, makes us whole.
And to recall the joys and challenges that each person brings to us
is a gift, and sometimes keeps us on our toes!

Re-member someone today, and heal your heart.

Blessings!
